New Business

  • Mr. Malewitz and Mr. Arnold presented plans for new storage units to be built on US-31 South.  In response to questions from the PC members, they indicated that there will be 19 parking spaces, drainage on both sides of the building, and that the lot also has access from Port Air Lane.  Mr. Shay indicated that phase 1 will include two storage buildings and that phase 2 will include a shop, restrooms, and an office, at which time he would have employees at the property.  Mr. Malewitz informed the PC that they have not yet contacted MDOT regarding a highway entrance.  The buildings will be steel structures and will have lighted signage on the building but not on the highway.  Additional street-light style lighting will be installed between the storage buildings and away from the highway.  The PC stressed the need for appropriate landscaping to improve the look of the steel structures and the street view, and Mr. Arnold was asked to provide the PC with more detailed landscaping plans. After further discussion, Thompson moved, with Fratrick seconding, to accept the plans as submitted for phase 1 (storage buildings 1 and 2) with the understanding that the PC will be provided with additional plans to review for phase 2 at a later date which will include elevations and landscaping.  A vote was taken and the motion carried unanimously
  • The PC members discussed the recommendations submitted at the previous meeting by LIAA regarding future lakeshore protection zoning.  All members agreed that the PC will not be recommending any changes in this regard at this time, but the PC will continue to review the Township Ordinances for potential revisions.
