Minutes of Regular Meeting

The Charlevoix Township Board meeting was called to order by Supervisor Center with Board Members Rajewski, Williams, and Witherspoon present.  Christiansen absent.


The minutes of the regular June 13, 2016, were accepted.


The financial report was given by Treasurer Williams.


Public comment was heard regarding the increase in pedestrian and bicycle traffic on Mercer and McSauba roads and the need for wider walking/bicycle paths.


John Campbell updated the Board regarding invasive species found in the North Point natural area and the poor health of beech trees.  After discussion, Williams moved and Witherspoon supported a motion to authorize a maximum cost of $2,000 for Site Planning to prepare a report identifying the invasive species and proposed solutions.  Motion carried unanimously. (M-31-16)


Grenetta Thomassey of Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council presented the Board with the council's study regarding septic tank usage and conditions.  She encouraged the Board to initiate discussion with township residents regarding proper maintenance of septic systems, and she indicated that the report includes proposed township ordinances such as mandatory pumping requirements.  Tip of the Mitt will also be presenting the information to the community on August 5, 2016, from 4:30 to 6:00 at the Charlevoix Public Library.


Supervisor Center informed the Board that the tennis court maintenance has been completed, and he thanked Donny Wells for his hard work in trimming the surrounding vegetation. Center indicated that the Lake Michigan boat launch project is waiting on a response from the Army Corp, and that the Township's ball field will be busy this weekend with a tournament.


Rajewski moved and Williams supported a motion to allow the Clerk to pay bills presented and appropriated. Motion carried unanimously.   (M-32-16)


Rajewski announced that there will not be a Township Planning Commission this month.
